Q. Is Afterworks open to families of all faiths?
A.
Yes. It is part of St. Peter’s mission to provide care to all children and families, regardless of race, color, religion, national origin, cultural heritage, political beliefs, disability, sexual orientation, or marital status. As a multicultural program we encourage members of different faiths and backgrounds to help us bring diversity to our program.

Q. What are your fees?
A.
All families receive financial support, either through state-funded voucher programs or directly through Afterworks. Fees are on a sliding scale, with no child paying more than $225-295/month. An additional sibling discount of 35% is offered to a second child from the same family.

Afterworks accepts vouchers through the Child Care Choices in Boston.

Afterworks is open during February, April, and December breaks. Vacation weeks (8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) are $35/day. There is no extra charge for early release days.

20141218_154709Q. Is transportation provided?
A.
Children may take the Cambridge Public School buses to the bus stop near St. Peter’s Church. A teacher will meet the children at the bus stop and walk them to the program. Afterworks is responsible for the children from the time the children get down from the school bus until the time they are picked up by their parents.

Afterworks does not provide its own transportation to or from the program. Parents must complete a Transport Form during registration. Only authorized people will be permitted to pick up students at the end of the day.

Q. How do I find you?
A. Afterworks is located at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Cambridge, in Central Square, on the corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Sellers Street, next to the YMCA. The entrance is on Sellers Street.

  • Walking from the subway:
    Take the red line to Central Station, then walk along Massachusetts Avenue west, towards Cambridge City Hall (in the direction of Harvard Square). As you pass City Hall on the right, you should see the Post Office and the YMCA on the left side of the street. St. Peter’s is the next building after the YMCA.
  • Parking:
    There are several public parking lots near St. Peter’s on Green Street (parallel to Massachusetts Avenue on the south side), as well as limited on-street parking in the environs of the church.

Q. How do I enroll my child(ren)?
A. Parents are encouraged to arrange a tour and interview by contacting Director Vyonni de Mel at (617) 661-8831. Parents will be given a tour, the director will answer questions, and will distribute a packet of parent information. Parents must complete the registration packet and provide a non-refundable deposit of two weeks’ tuition. This deposit will be applied to the final two weeks of a child’s attendance in the program. Parents are required to give two weeks’ notice (in writing) in order to have this deposit applied to the tuition fee. A child will not be officially enrolled until all the forms are completed and the two-week deposit is paid.

Registration is available on a “first come, first served” basis. Priority is given to currently enrolled Afterworks families. Early registration is encouraged.

Q. Once my child is enrolled, may I visit the program?
A. Of course! Parents may drop in at any time. Formal parent-teacher conferences are held at least once per year, though we encourage parents to visit with us much more frequently, on an informal basis, to keep us abreast of any changes in their children’s lives and to let us know how we may be of service. Afterworks is happy to serve as a liaison between parents and schools. Our staff members speak Russian and Sinhalese, and are available to translate on parents’ behalf when working with the school system.
